About AVID

AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, with a mission to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.

 

As a four-year program at the high school level, the AVID program provides an elective course where students receive the additional academic, social, and emotional support that will help them succeed in Garden Grove High School's most rigorous courses. This includes guiding students in how to study, take Focused Notes, organize themselves, and manage time. Students also participate in Tutorials twice a week, facilitated by college tutors, where they work collaboratively in a Socratic style to address their points of confusion in their other courses.
