Welcome to Counseling

Welcome to the GGHS Counseling Office!

Upon entering Garden Grove High School, every student is assigned to a counselor who becomes the first source of help in planning courses and developing academic and career goals. All students have equal access to their counselor and all services they provide. Each counselor is anxious to become a friend as well as a consultant. Students remain with the same counselor for their entire stay at Garden Grove High School.

Counselors at GGHS are committed to providing a comprehensive guidance program. Each student and parent can expect guaranteed services as a result of the program design.

The three major areas are:

  • College Advisory units in grades 9 through 12
  • Responsive services providing assistance with personal situations requiring individualized assistance
  • Individual and group educational and career planning

Students will receive:

  • High school course planning to meet college entrance requirements
  • Opportunities to meet with college representatives on the high school campus and at the District College Information Night
  • Testing Information (PSAT, ACT, SAT, AP, SBAC)
  • Financial aid / scholarship information
  • Assistance with applications, scholarship and admission recommendations
  • College information appropriate to individual goals
  • Career and Technical Education advisement and enrollment
  • Community college program information
  • Trade, technical and vocational school information
  • Military service information

 

Students and parents can also expect the following services:

  • Development of a personal academic plan
  • Pre-enrollment orientation to include the scheduling process and graduation requirements
  • Registration, scheduling, and program adjustments as needed
  • Test results interpretation
  • Parent conferencing, parent-teacher conference arrangements
  • Counseling assistance and community referral information for special needs
  • Special grade reports provided upon request
  • Transcripts and graduation status reports provided twice yearly

Parents or students interested in reading the State adopted Academic Content Standards in the areas of English-Language Arts, Mathematics, History-Social, Science and Visual and Performing Arts can visit the California Department of Education website.
